Accounts were categorized into niches based on their primary content focus, determined by analyzing bio keywords, hashtag usage patterns, and content classification across their most recent 50 posts. Accounts that posted across multiple niches with no clear primary category were excluded. Each niche includes a minimum of 3,000 accounts.

Follower distribution. The sample was stratified across follower tiers to prevent bias toward any single account size. Each niche includes accounts from five follower brackets: nano (1K-10K), micro (10K-50K), mid-tier (50K-500K), macro (500K-1M), and mega (1M+). Account distribution within each bracket was weighted to reflect the actual proportion of active creators at each tier.

Engagement rate calculation. Engagement rate for each account was calculated as: (likes + comments + shares) / views x 100. This was computed across each account's 30 most recent posts, then averaged. Posts older than 90 days at time of data collection were excluded to prevent recency bias from affecting the results.

Outlier treatment. Accounts with engagement rates above the 99th percentile or below the 1st percentile within each niche were excluded.
